The Benefits of Brewer’s and Nutritional Yeast

I’ve been experimenting with Brewer’s Yeast lately.  I’ve been consuming Nutritional yeast for a number of years (6?), but since I found out I have the MTHFR mutation, I’m staying away from synthetic folic acid.  They add folic acid to nutritional yeast.

I’ve been staying away from Brewer’s Yeast because my mom kept telling me it’s the worst thing she’s ever tasted.

Yeast has:

  • B Vitamins- loaded with them…. B1, B2, B3, B6, Folate, B12
  • Minerals – loaded with them….Potassium, Chromium, Zinc, Selenium, Lithium, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Copper,
  • Protein
  • Probiotics
  • Prebiotics (MOS, Beta-glucans)
  • Anti-inflammatories (beta glucans)
  • Nicotinamide riboside
  • Nucleotides: DNA and RNA
  • Ergosterol (R)- these have pro and antiestrogenic properties.  Inhibits breast cancer.

I’ve actually taken every one of those ingredients separately, so I know what they all feel like individually.

Out of all of those, I’m most interested in the Beta-glucans, Nicotinamide and DNA and RNA.   Nucleotides are in whole foods they give me energy.

Well, it turns out that the first one I tried by Now Foods tasted horribly bad.  It’s on par with spirulina, but not as bad as NAC, Wormwood, Resveratrol, Hydroxytyrosol and some other supps.  If only all supplements tasted as good as inositol and NAG….

I got really tired of it for a few hours, but I subsequently got a lot of energy.  It had a very intense cognitive effect, but it was negative.

Next, up, I tried the Swanson brand.  It tasted really good, as opposed to the Now Foods brand. But I still got tired after it.

After some research, I realized that both the Now Food and Swanson brand were grown on Barley, which may have some gluten in it.

I then realized that the Lewis Labs and Blue Bonnet Brewer’s Yeast were grown on beets, not barley.  They were gluten free.

After trying both companies, there was no fatigue from either of them, which indicated that gluten was indeed the problem.  I did get the energizing effect from the nucleotides contained.

The Lewis Labs one tastes better than the Blue Bonnet one.  It tastes like honey nut cheerios when I mix it with water and more than a tablespoon of honey.

Lewis Labs Brewer’s Yeast will be inducted into my regimen – probably 30g a day.New_Brewer_s_Yeast_Mineral_Analyses_grande_1024x1024
